Tune: Denver
Original song, written to the tune of “Denver” around 1963.
I went out on a bright Monday morning when the sun was still young in the sky. I went and talked to my recruiter, Boys and now I am wondering why. He said he was so glad to see me and asked me to please come in side Then he started to tell me sea stories, Boys While I went along for the ride. He told of of Frisco and Newport, too! Said they were the friendliest towns And he didn't stop telling sea stories, Boys Till my name on his papers was down. And now here I sit in the Navy I'll be here till the day I die You see I just re-enlisted boys And still I am wondering why.
Found in an old notebook on an undated, faded sheet of paper. It was written with a mechanical pencil and capitalization and punctuation is as shown. There is no reference to the name of the artist or the album that the song “Denver” came from.
