Life can be empty
for the man that doesn't fit
within the rut in which he's stuck
without a chance to quit.
Friends he cannot make
among those with whom he's stuck
For his live upon a different plain of life
with a different kind of luck.
His personality clashes
with those who try to guide him
and he cannot to be with
those who always chide him.
The job he does from day to day
is nothing but a bore
and always somehow he does things wrong
and fumbles every chore.
He longs to find some purpose
some reason to keep trying
Yet the greatest thing has to do
is just to keep from crying.
The road of life he walks alone
hoping some day to find
someplace and time to call his own
and save his peace of mind.
Life can be so lonely
for a man who can't belong
He stand and fall alone unloved
whether he's right or wrong
And all he wants is a girl to love
and a place to call his own.

Original poem, written around 1965 as a play on Edgar Allan’s poem “The Raven”. Once upon a mid-watch dreary as I pondered weak and weary over many monstrous volumes of the Nuky-Poo School lore As I nodded, nearly napping from the walls there came a rapping There came a most atrocious rapping from the steam pipe near the floor As I jerked out of my slumber and dialed the barracks check in number And said that all things were secure …Continue reading →
